Our Community Movement
Welcome to Mask Bloc 608! We are a group of disabled, chronically-ill, queer and trans people in Madison, WI, who still recognize that COVID-19 is an ongoing threat to everyone’s health. We hold values of anti-ableism, anti-racism, anti-homophobia and transphobia, equity, community, and radical care. This group has the purpose of raising money to purchase good quality masks for free community distribution, ongoing education about the COVID-19 virus and Long COVID, mutual aid, and community-building.
Lets fight against Covid and mask up!
How Covid works.
When someone coughs or sneezes, some big drops of mucus leave their mouth. These large drops, or ‘droplets’, can carry the virus. Large drops can go far before falling to the floor. They can travel 6 to 12 feet. Six feet is the length of one twin mattress.
When someone talks or breathes, tiny drops leave their mouths and noses. These tiny drops, or ‘aerosols’ can hold the virus and float in the air for hours. The tiny drops can spread around the room. Anyone in the room can breathe them in.

Long Covid?
-
Long COVID can include a wide range of ongoing health problems; these conditions can last weeks, months, or years.
-
Long COVID occurs more often in people who had severe COVID-19 illness, but anyone who has been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 can experience it.
-
People who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 and become infected may have a higher risk of developing Long COVID compared to people who have been vaccinated.
-
People can be reinfected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, multiple times. Each time a person is infected or reinfected with SARS-CoV-2, they have a risk of developing Long COVID.
-
While most people with Long COVID have evidence of infection or COVID-19 illness, in some cases, a person with Long COVID may not have tested positive for the virus or known they were infected.
Why we are still masking
-
Masks protect you from catching COVID because they can stop aerosols as well as larger droplets.
-
Masks also protect others, which can be important whether you have COVID symptoms or if you happen to be one of the 40% of people infected with COVID who have no symptoms.
